Steel prices on the rise yet again...
January 27, 2011
Well, that bad word combo "steel price increase" has hit us in the face yet again. Yes, an avergae of 15% has been published by most of the rack and wire deck manufacturers across the U.S.
After Nucor Corp., a Pittsburgh-area steelmaker, raised the price of a sheet of carbon steel for three consecutive weeks in December, industry officials are questioning the sustainability of rapidly rising tags. On December 6, 2010, the steelmaker informed customers that it was raising the price of flat-rolled products by $40 per ton. That announcement closely followed two similar price increases in late November and early December. Mill sources say that the rapid increase in prices stems from increased demand for the product and the need to recoup margins. Nevertheless, it is here again and with no news of whether or not this pricing will remain stable.
So remember, there's nothing you can do about the rising steel prices, but always consider used materials when making your purchase....and yes, we have plenty of it!
